Peavey Custom Guitar to Benefit Miss America Scholarship Fund
Peavey invited the aspiring Broadway star and Dean’s List scholar at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music to accept a unique piece of Miss America history that will help the next generation of young women attend college.
Mary Peavey, President of Peavey Electronics and education advocate, presented Haglund with a Peavey Scenic Series™ electric guitar from the award-winning Peavey Custom Shop that bears the signatures of 70 Miss Americas. The one-of-a-kind guitar will be auctioned to benefit the Miss America Foundation, the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. In 2007, the foundation dispensed more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
“I am honored to be with Peavey Electronics today to receive this wonderful gift on behalf of The Miss America Organization,” stated Kirsten Haglund. “It is truly a unique guitar with signatures from 70 Miss Americas that
have gone before me, and we are delighted to be able to receive it to help raise funds for our Scholarship Program.”
Commented Mary Peavey, “The Miss America Organization enables more women to attend college than any other scholarship organization. Peavey is proud to donate this unique musical instrument to help build America’s next
generation of leaders.”
In response to this historic event, the City of Meridian and the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors issued proclamations to recognize Peavey’s support of the Miss America Foundation and declare May 21, 2008, “Miss America Day.”
Peavey Scenic Series guitars are crafted by seasoned musical-instrument luthiers through patented techniques in the company’s Meridian custom shop, and each guitar can be customized with themed graphics to showcase communities, organizations or special causes.
In addition to being a great promotional tool and a source of pride, the Peavey Scenic Series guitar also helps support Mississippi’s afterschool programs. For every Scenic Series guitar sold, Peavey will donate $400 to
the Afterschool Alliance of Mississippi, an advocacy organization that brings together policymakers, educators, youth development workers and parents to improve outcomes for the state’s children through afterschool programs. Mary Peavey is a board member of the national Afterschool Alliance.
Rich in history and social significance, the Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit organization that has maintained a tradition for many decades of empowering American women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their
opinions, talent and intelligence. For more information, please visit www.missamerica.org.

Miss America Scholarship Directory
Scholarship Directory
The purpose of this directory is to provide an overview of all awards offered by the Miss America Organization on the national level. Individual, state and local programs also provide scholarships to participants, and reference should be made to the individual programs concerning these awards. Important information herein is provided about each national award, which should answer most questions concerning governance, eligibility, requirements for submission, deadlines, award values, disbursement of funds, and where relevant, history and background.
The Miss America Organization strives to assure that all scholarship monies won by students are allocated for expenses relative to education. Students wishing extensions or exceptions to standard governing policies often have an opportunity to present their situation to the Miss America Scholarship Committee for consideration.
Continuance of each award will be determined on a year-to-year basis, and each will be offered in whole, or in part, or not offered, within the complete discretion of the Miss America Organization. Decisions regarding continuance are based on many factors, including but not limited to financial and annual priorities.
Our organization provides scholarships to young women competing on the National, State and Local level of competition as well as several highly specific focus groups.
If you are a student and still have a question after referring to the information herein, you may contact the Miss America Scholarship Department at (609) 345-7571 ext. 27.

MLOT Update
I wanted to update you on a couple of things and distribute a schedule for the weekend and Monday of the Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen Pageant. We're only 6 weeks or so away from crowning our new MLOT 2008!
Attached you will find a schedule for the pageant. Please keep in mind, although this schedule is more complete and updated than the information you got at the state meeting, there still may be the need for changes. Be prepared for changes if they should occur.
Note especially the changes made to the teen pool party. It has been moved to Saturday night, June 14 following interviews and will be for the teen contestants only. The Teen & Fleur de Lis party will be on Sunday night and I need your help to make it a big success and fun event for all involved. The event is a "Pretty Pretty Princess Party" for Teens and their FDL's. It is a makeover party for the FDL's and the teen contestants are the ones who will be doing the makeovers. It will be a great opportunity to bond with your FDL. What I need for each contestant to do is to bring a small makeup kit for their FDL. Include lip gloss, nail polish, blush, eyeshadow, hair barrettes, a brush and make up applicators in the kit. Be creative in what you include. Sunglasses, boas, etc... We will have a fashion shoot after the makeovers! Moms, I also need your help. I need volunteers who are willing to bring dessert items for the party. Cookies, brownies, fudge, candies, etc...If you are willing to assist in this, please email me and let me know. I'll in turn let you know what to bring. Also at the party you will be crowning your FDL and they will take the oath of a Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen FDL Princess. It might just be the most fun event of the whole weekend. With your help, I'm sure it will be.
I've emailed Wayne and asked him to send me updated information on opening number attire. I will forward that information to you when I receive it.
Fitness shirts will be mailed this week hopefully. You MUST try them on the immediately and let me know if there are any problems with fit. If I don't hear from you, I will assume that all is well.
I am so looking forward to the pageant! I've had many people tell me that we have a fantastic group of beautiful young ladies this year. I must agree!!!
Please continue to let me know if you have questions that I can help you with.

Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen
